A Website Agency Proposal Has Stalled: Check Launch Dependencies
By Antony Draper · Published 8 November 2026 · For B2B agency, consultancy and specialist-service owners
For website work, a desired launch date is only useful when scope, content, approvals and decision ownership can support it. Diagnose those dependencies before offering a discount.
Understand the situation before responding
Check whether the contact confirmed the business purpose of the website, the required launch point and who signs off the work. Ask about content ownership, brand assets, integrations, migration and internal review capacity where they affect scope. Do not assume enthusiasm for a new site means approved funding. An arbitrary public launch promise can conceal unfinished decisions that prevent any supplier from starting responsibly.
An example message to adapt
Is the proposed launch still the priority? Before revising the offer, can we check who owns content and approval, whether the budget is approved and which integrations are essential for the first release? Those answers will help us confirm whether the current scope and timing are feasible or whether a smaller first release would be useful.
Illustrative teaching example. Replace the prompts with buyer-confirmed facts; this is not a client conversation, claimed result or message to send automatically.
Prepare a useful next action
Build a dependency list showing client inputs, supplier tasks and approval points. Separate essential launch functionality from later improvements. If proposing a first release, explain which outcomes it can and cannot achieve. Avoid promising search rankings, sales results or an unchanged launch date after removing essential work. Confirm who can resolve a content or stakeholder delay and how changes will affect delivery planning.
Record the decision and its limits
Choose between the current plan, a genuinely useful narrower release or a pause until prerequisites exist. Record an agreed next action rather than a general desire to launch soon. If the contact needs a partner to approve spending, help them prepare a factual internal summary. Keep any sample scenario anonymous and clearly illustrative; an imagined agency project is not a customer success story or evidence of conversion performance.
