Weekly operating rhythm without the founder

A weekly meeting demonstrates independence only if the team can interpret evidence, resolve appropriate trade-offs and follow through without waiting for the founder's private direction.

Look at the evidence

  1. Observe who sets the agenda and explains the numbers.

  2. Check which decisions are made versus deferred.

  3. Review actions and outcomes at the following meeting.

Illustrative example

A case to think through

Managers present updates competently but leave all cross-team conflicts unresolved until the founder returns. Reporting works; collective decision authority does not.

This is a hypothetical operating example, not a client result.

Avoid a misleading conclusion

A meeting running on time is not evidence that it can govern the work effectively.

Leadership independence is compatible with valuable founder involvement. Look for managers who can own outcomes within clear boundaries, coordinate shared constraints and surface risk appropriately. An org chart or confident meeting performance is a starting point for questions, not proof that the team can operate independently.

Should the founder stop attending immediately?

Not necessarily. Test facilitation and decision ownership progressively with clear escalation and reserved matters.
