ANTONY DRAPER ADVISORYFOUNDER INDEPENDENCE

Founder Independence · A free seven-day Plan

You hired good people.
Why does everything still come back to you?

For founders with a team in place who still handle routine approvals and exceptions.

Agree one recurring decision your manager can make without asking you—and which exceptions still need you.

Free fillable PDF · Worked example · Conversation prompts

Delivered by email. Includes a clinic invitation. Marketing updates are optional.

A delivery date needs changing. A customer wants an exception. Two managers disagree about what comes first. Each question looks small; together, they keep you involved in work you thought you’d handed over.

YOUR NEXT DECISION DOESN’T HAVE TO WAIT FOR YOU.
The Seven-Day Decision Handover Plan
Choose it. Hand it over. See what happens.

A look inside the Plan

“Can I move this delivery?”
One small question. Again.

Instead of answering the same question again, agree the choices the delivery manager can make next time.

The example shows how to give them room to act while keeping customer promises and spending limits clear. Check they have the information and capability to use that authority.

Illustrative example. Adapt the boundaries to your business.

DECISION HANDOVER01 / DELIVERY

Give them a decision.
Give them the boundaries.

Who owns it
The delivery manager.
They can decide
Offer a visible available slot within existing customer commitments.
Bring it back when
Another promised job moves, capacity is exceeded or spending falls outside their authority.
First check
Ask them to explain one ordinary case and one exception. Review the first suitable case together.

“What stopped you deciding this without me?”

Why the same questions keep returning

They own the work. Do they have permission to decide?

A manager can be responsible for delivery and still need you to approve every change.

If they don’t know which choices they can make, or when you’ll overrule them, asking you makes sense.

Start by making one decision clear.

For founders with a team already in place who still handle routine approvals, exceptions and competing priorities.

A note from Antony

Start with the agreement
behind the work.

“I’m Antony Draper. When everything comes back to the founder, I look at the agreement behind the work. Does the person know what they own, what they can decide and when to escalate?

This Plan gives you a way to have that conversation about one decision in your business.”

Experience in sales and operations at HP, Capita and in the public sector.

Before you start

How much time will this take?

The Plan is arranged over seven days. Start with one decision and the first conversation prompts; you do not need to complete every worksheet before using it. The time needed depends on the decision and the person taking it on. If no suitable case occurs that week, test the agreement when one does.

What if I’ve already tried delegating?

Pick a decision that came back after you handed over the work. The Plan helps you examine the authority, information and boundaries behind it, then agree what needs changing. Check capability and competing commitments too. Decisions that still need your approval stay within their existing limits.

Is there a paid offer afterwards?

Yes. After requesting the free Plan, you can choose an optional personal Decision Handover Map review. The offer page explains the fee and scope. Your Plan is free whether you buy or not. Requesting it does not register you for the clinic or subscribe you to marketing updates.
