One decision. Clear ownership. · Review and retain

Checking a delegation worked

A handover works when the owner can make appropriate choices and achieve the agreed standard within the boundary. Fewer questions alone does not prove that; the person may have stopped asking while problems grow.

Put it into practice

  1. Check an ordinary decision and an exception.

  2. Review timeliness, quality and the basis for the choice.

  3. Ask whether missing information or hidden rework remains.

Illustrative example

A case to think through

The owner resolves a scheduling request appropriately and records an exception that genuinely exceeded capacity. Both can be signs of a working agreement.

This is a hypothetical operating example, not a client result.

A boundary worth checking

Measuring success only by the founder's quieter inbox can reward concealed delays.

Keep review focused on evidence and the conditions around a decision. A different reasonable method is not automatically a defect. Where intervention is necessary, make the temporary change to ownership explicit and decide what evidence would support restoring or revising the agreement.

Is a mistake proof the handover failed?

Not on its own. Examine whether the case, boundary, information or capability needs changing.
