One decision. Clear ownership. · Start the handover

Delegation template for one recurring decision

A task list tells somebody what to do. A decision agreement tells them what they may decide when the work changes. Start with one repeated question rather than documenting a whole department.

Put it into practice

  1. Name a real decision from last week, including the outcome it affected.

  2. Choose one accountable owner and check they have capacity to act.

  3. Write the normal boundary, the exception and the first review date together.

Illustrative example

A case to think through

A delivery manager may offer an available slot within existing promises. Moving another customer's committed work remains an exception.

This is a hypothetical operating example, not a client result.

A boundary worth checking

Copying a generic template without checking the owner's actual authority can leave them responsible for a result they cannot control.

A useful first handover is small enough to test and meaningful enough to matter. Keep the original work records so the review can distinguish what was agreed from what happened. If the recipient cannot explain a suitable ordinary case and an exception, clarify the agreement before expanding it.

Does the worksheet transfer legal authority?

No. It records an operating agreement within existing permissions. Formal company, contractual or regulated authority must still be respected.
