Delivery quality when the founder steps back

If quality depends on founder inspection, investigate whether the standard is explicit, evidence is available and another role is competent to assess it. Stepping back without those conditions is not a fair test.

Look at the evidence

  1. Compare accepted and rejected work examples.

  2. Ask another reviewer to apply the stated standard.

  3. Examine disagreements before changing release authority.

Illustrative example

A case to think through

A report is always rewritten by the founder because the acceptance criteria never explain what a decision-useful conclusion looks like.

This is a hypothetical operating example, not a client result.

Avoid a misleading conclusion

Replacing founder review with a checklist that nobody can interpret can remove scrutiny without establishing capability.

Delivery independence needs evidence from real work, including the exceptions that make the business difficult to run. A process document, quiet holiday or completed checklist is not enough on its own. Check whether another capable and authorised role can maintain the agreed outcome under representative conditions.

Your evidence check

Bring supporting and contrary examples. A self-reported answer is a starting point; these notes do not calculate or validate a score.

Should quality checking be completely independent of the founder?

Use the assurance arrangement appropriate to the work. The aim is dependable standards, with specialist and formal acceptance roles preserved.
