One decision. Clear ownership. · Set authority

Recording a delegation agreement on one page

A one-page agreement can make ordinary operating authority easy to find. Its value is a shared reference that stays current, not a substitute for contracts, formal permissions or detailed procedures.

Put it into practice

  1. Write owner, outcome, choices and limits in plain language.

  2. Add the information source, alternate and escalation route.

  3. Record who agreed it and when it will be reviewed.

Illustrative example

A case to think through

A shared service team keeps a short agreement beside its queue so a new supervisor can see which remedies are permitted without searching private messages.

This is a hypothetical operating example, not a client result.

A boundary worth checking

Saving the agreement only in the founder's inbox leaves the operating permission inaccessible to the people using it.

Operating authority must sit within the permissions your business already holds. A worksheet or matrix cannot override company, contractual, financial, employment or specialist controls. Where a choice is formally reserved, show the decision route clearly so the manager can prepare and progress the surrounding work.

Does everyone need to sign it?

Use a record appropriate to your organisation. Formal delegations may require a specific approval process; a casual note must not replace that.
